I have moved off of BlogSpot and am now self hosting this blog on my own server. Nothing against Blogger but I like having my files kept 'locally' and within my control. Oh yeah and I actually update it too as well as cross post it over to Twitter (@DrkRgr). My domain hasn't changed but I am keeping this page live because, let's be honest, Blogger is sending me traffic.

I got a repair call for a customer that was (thankfully) located close to my house. When I got there and took a look at their system, I knew that it crashed and needed to be replaced. The customer was understandably not happy about it especially because their one year factory warranty ran out just two weeks prior.

I called the owner of the company I was contracting out too and told him the system was dead and needed to be replaced. After negotiations with the customer it was agreed that he would replace it with a refurbished model for $500. I didn't think that was too bad of a deal at first but when I found out that he was going to downgrade them to a processor that was the lowest model that Avaya made it raised a red flag. I need to point out that it's not my customer therefore it's not my business what this guy charges.

To make a long story short the 'refurbished' processor was bad and I had to drive back to his house and pick up another one. That's the only reason that this job took two hours. The labor involved two screws and plugging/unplugging five modular cords (those cords that go from the phone to the wall jack). It took me 15 minutes to put the new system in and another 15 to program it.

Now back to the why I got a red flag. He charged this guy $275 labor!!

Let's do the math

$500 Total

-$50 Contractor charges (This is what I made off the job!)

-$0 Parts (there is no way he bought this as a factory refurb, it was used, period.)

$450 Profit

*sigh*

Small Business Adventure

So I'm doing contract work for a couple of telecommunications companies and I didn't realize how much I missed doing that type of work. The bad thing is, even at $25/hr, I don't get paid shit for it. Let me explain. I live in the Phoenix Metro area and that is a whole lot of area to cover. I'll get called out for a simple repair that I can bang out in under an hour. The problem is I would drive 45 minutes to the job, have no more work for the day so I end up driving 45 minutes back home. That's an hour and a half travel time that I don't get paid for and about 60+ miles that I don't get paid mileage. Do the math and I end up losing money on the job. That sucks. To add insult to injury the guy I work for questions every. Little. Thing. I. Do. Not only that but I've been called back to jobs that I've done because "something isn't working right". He then lectures me on the stupidest things about it. I've been in this trade for almost 16 years, I know what I'm doing. Anyway I get out to the job site and the problem was customer created. Vindicated bitch!

Now the whole point of this post is to say, I've decided to go into business for myself. Lets do the math on a job I did. The customer was charged about $1300 for parts and labor on a system install I did. I wired five locations, mounted the equipment, programmed the switch and did a little customer training... all within five hours. I zipped through it! The total cost of the equipment was probably around $300 for (allegedly) refurbished equipment.
$1300 Total Cost
- $300 Equipment
- $125 Contractor Charges (this is what I got paid folks!)
$875 Profit
Granted I know there is overhead, etc but it can't be too much because he runs the business out of his home.
Well I can run the same business out of my home too. Adding the Contractor Charges and Profit together you get $1000. That would be mine.

Yes, yes, I know I'm over simplifying it but the $875 difference in profit is enough for me to deal with running a one man business.

I have a SMith & Wesson M&P40 with a few thousands rounds through it and it has become my goto gun and even my duty weapon for the Rangers. I wasn't too happy with the trigger so I installed an Apex Tactical DCAEK (ie. trigger job). This has been one of the best things I have done to gun! Having faith in Apex's parts I installed their RAM (Reset Assist Mechanism) and they have another winner with their product. My reset is loud and I'm actually able to feel it when I dry fire the gun. Well my happiness didn't last long... As I was running through some dry fire drills I noticed a little piece of metal fall out my M&P when I racked the slide back. Not. Cool. It turns out it was the back end of the striker where it engages the sear.

Now being the broke ass that I am I have to find the part, order and hope I can install it myself.

Muslims in Mumbai are up in arms against a United States military sniffer dog allegedly with name tag of 'Khan' that has landed in the city as part of President Barack Obama security arrangements.
On Tuesday, the German Shepherd arrived in the Mumbai airport from a Hercules C130 transport plane. The German Shepherd allegedly had a tag around its neck which read 'MWD Khan.' MWD stands for Military Working Dog. Khan is alleged to be the name of the dog.
Angry Muslims in the city and the state are threatening to protest this 'insult' to the community.
The issue became a rage when a tabloid had reported the incident and quoted veteran actor Raza Murad objecting to the dog being named 'Khan.'

ON SHEEP, WOLVES, AND SHEEPDOGS

This essay, by Lt.Col. Dave Grossman, former West Point psychology professor and retired Army Ranger, was sent by the wife of a retired Marine. She notes, "I've met many Marines in the past 25 years, all the same type: Strong, compassionate, patriotic, brave. Many of our non-military friends say they can't understand why Marines are the way they are. I thought the following article shed a bit of light on these brave men."

One Vietnam veteran, an old retired colonel, once said this to me: "Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident." This is true. Remember, the murder rate is six per 100,000 per year, and the aggravated assault rate is four per 1,000 per year. What this means is that the vast majority of Americans are not inclined to hurt one another.
Some estimates say that two million Americans are victims of violent crimes every year, a tragic, staggering number, perhaps an all-time record rate of violent crime. But there are almost 300 million Americans, which means that the odds of being a victim of violent crime is considerably less than one in a hundred on any given year. Furthermore, since many violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, the actual number of violent citizens is considerably less than two million.

Thus there is a paradox, and we must grasp both ends of the situation: We may well be in the most violent times in history, but violence is still remarkably rare. This is because most citizens are kind, decent people who are not capable of hurting each other, except by accident or under extreme provocation. They are sheep.

I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me it is like the pretty, blue robin's egg. Inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard blue shell. Police officers, soldiers, and other warriors are like that shell, and someday the civilization they protect will grow into something wonderful. For now, though, they need warriors to protect them from the predators.

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there that will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf."

If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath, a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? What do you have then? A sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.

Let me expand on this old soldier's excellent model of the sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. We know that the sheep live in denial, which is what makes them sheep. They do not want to believe that there is evil in the world. They can accept the fact that fires can happen, which is why they want fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, fire alarms and fire exits throughout their kids' schools.

But many of them are outraged at the idea of putting an armed police officer in their kid's school. Our children are thousands of times more likely to be killed or seriously injured by school violence than fire, but the sheep's only response to the possibility of violence is denial. The idea of someone coming to kill or harm their child is just too hard, and so they chose the path of denial.

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheep dog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.

Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn't tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, "Baa."

Until the wolf shows up! Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.

The students, the victims, at Columbine High School were big, tough high school students, and under ordinary circumstances they would not have had the time of day for a police officer. They were not bad kids; they just had nothing to say to a cop. When the school was under attack, however, and SWAT teams were clearing the rooms and hallways, the officers had to physically peel those clinging, sobbing kids off of them. This is how the little lambs feel about their sheepdog when the wolf is at the door.

Look at what happened after September 11, 2001 when the wolf pounded hard on the door. Remember how America, more than ever before, felt differently about their law enforcement officers and military personnel? Remember how many times you heard the word hero?

Understand that there is nothing morally superior about being a sheepdog; it is just what you choose to be. Also understand that a sheepdog is a funny critter: He is always sniffing around out on the perimeter, checking the breeze, barking at things that go bump in the night, and yearning for a righteous battle. That is, the young sheepdogs yearn for a righteous battle. The old sheepdogs are a little older and wiser, but they move to the sound of the guns when needed right along with the young ones.

Here is how the sheep and the sheepdog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the sheepdog lives for that day. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, "Thank God I wasn't on one of those planes." The sheepdogs, the warriors, said, "Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference." When you are truly transformed into a warrior and have truly invested yourself into warriorhood, you want to be there. You want to be able to make a difference.

There is nothing morally superior about the sheepdog, the warrior, but he does have one real advantage. Only one. And that is that he is able to survive and thrive in an environment that destroys 98 percent of the population.

There was research conducted a few years ago with individuals convicted of violent crimes. These cons were in prison for serious, predatory crimes of violence: assaults, murders and killing law enforcement officers. The vast majority said that they specifically targeted victims by body language: slumped walk, passive behavior and lack of awareness. They chose their victims like big cats do in Africa, when they select one out of the herd that is least able to protect itself.

Some people may be destined to be sheep and others might be genetically primed to be wolves or sheepdogs. But I believe that most people can choose which one they want to be, and I'm proud to say that more and more Americans are choosing to become sheepdogs.

Seven months after the attack on September 11, 2001, Todd Beamer was honored in his hometown of Cranbury, New Jersey. Todd, as you recall, was the man on Flight 93 over Pennsylvania who called on his cell phone to alert an operator from United Airlines about the hijacking. When he learned of the other three passenger planes that had been used as weapons, Todd dropped his phone and uttered the words, "Let's roll," which authorities believe was a signal to the other passengers to confront the terrorist hijackers. In one hour, a transformation occurred among the passengers - athletes, business people and parents. -- From sheep to sheepdogs and together they fought the wolves, ultimately saving an unknown number of lives on the ground.

Here is the point I like to emphasize; especially to the thousands of police officers and soldiers I speak to each year. In nature the sheep, real sheep, are born as sheep. Sheepdogs are born that way, and so are wolves. They didn't have a choice. But you are not a critter. As a human being, you can be whatever you want to be. It is a conscious, moral decision.

If you want to be a sheep, then you can be a sheep and that is okay, but you must understand the price you pay. When the wolf comes, you and your loved ones are going to die if there is not a sheepdog there to protect you. If you want to be a wolf, you can be one, but the sheepdogs are going to hunt you down and you will never have rest, safety, trust or love. But if you want to be a sheepdog and walk the warrior's path, then you must make a conscious and moral decision every day to dedicate, equip and prepare yourself to thrive in that toxic, corrosive moment when the wolf comes knocking at the door.

For example, many officers carry their weapons in church. They are well concealed in ankle holsters, shoulder holsters or inside-the-belt holsters tucked into the small of their backs. Anytime you go to some form of religious service, there is a very good chance that a police officer in your congregation is carrying. You will never know if there is such an individual in your place of worship, until the wolf appears to massacre you and your loved ones.

I was training a group of police officers in Texas, and during the break, one officer asked his friend if he carried his weapon in church. The other cop replied, "I will never be caught without my gun in church." I asked why he felt so strongly about this, and he told me about a cop he knew who was at a church massacre in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1999. In that incident, a mentally deranged individual came into the church and opened fire, gunning down fourteen people. He said that officer believed he could have saved every life that day if he had been carrying his gun. His own son was shot, and all he could do was throw himself on the boy's body and wait to die. That cop looked me in the eye and said, "Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself after that?"

Some individuals would be horrified if they knew this police officer was carrying a weapon in church. They might call him paranoid and would probably scorn him. Yet these same individuals would be enraged and would call for "heads to roll" if they found out that the airbags in their cars were defective, or that the fire extinguisher and fire sprinklers in their kids' school did not work. They can accept the fact that fires and traffic accidents can happen and that there must be safeguards against them.

Their only response to the wolf, though, is denial, and all too often their response to the sheepdog is scorn and disdain. But the sheepdog quietly asks himself, "Do you have and idea how hard it would be to live with yourself if your loved ones were attacked and killed, and you had to stand there helplessly because you were unprepared for that day?"

It is denial that turns people into sheep. Sheep are psychologically destroyed by combat because their only defense is denial, which is counterproductive and destructive, resulting in fear, helplessness and horror when the wolf shows up.

Denial kills you twice. It kills you once, at your moment of truth when you are not physically prepared: you didn't bring your gun, you didn't train. Your only defense was wishful thinking. Hope is not a strategy. Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive, you are psychologically shattered by your fear helplessness and horror at your moment of truth.

Gavin de Becker puts it like this in ?Fear Less,? his superb post-9/11 book, which should be required reading for anyone trying to come to terms with our current world situation: "...denial can be seductive, but it has an insidious side effect. For all the peace of mind deniers think they get by saying it isn't so, the fall they take when faced with new violence is all the more unsettling."

Denial is a save-now-pay-later scheme, a contract written entirely in small print, for in the long run, the denying person knows the truth on some level.

And so the warrior must strive to confront denial in all aspects of his life, and prepare himself for the day when evil comes.

If you are warrior who is legally authorized to carry a weapon and you step outside without that weapon, then you become a sheep, pretending that the bad man will not come today. No one can be "on" 24/7, for a lifetime. Everyone needs down time. But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself... "Baa."

This business of being a sheep or a sheep dog is not a yes-no dichotomy. It is not an all-or-nothing, either-or choice. It is a matter of degrees, a continuum. On one end is an abject, head-in-the-sand-sheep and on the other end is the ultimate warrior. Few people exist completely on one end or the other. Most of us live somewhere in between. Since 9-11 almost everyone in America took a step up that continuum, away from denial. The sheep took a few steps toward accepting and appreciating their warriors, and the warriors started taking their job more seriously. The degree to which you move up that continuum, away from sheephood and denial, is the degree to which you and your loved ones will survive, physically and psychologically at your moment of truth.

In an apparent major breakthrough, scientists in Korea report using umbilical cord blood stem cells to restore feeling and mobility to a spinal-cord injury patient.

The research, published in the peer-reviewed journal Cythotherapy, centered on a woman had been a paraplegic 19 years due to an accident.

After an infusion of umbilical cord blood stem cells, stunning results were recorded:

"The patient could move her hips and feel her hip skin on day 15 after transplantation. On day 25 after transplantation her feet responded to stimulation."

Umbilical cord cells are considered "adult stem cells," in contrast to embryonic stem cells, which have raised ethical concerns because a human embryo must be destroyed in order to harvest them.

The report said motor activity was noticed on day 7, and she was able to maintain an upright position on day 13. Fifteen days after surgery, she began to elevate both lower legs about one centimeter.

The study's abstract says not only did the patient regain feeling, but 41 days after stem cell transplantation, testing "also showed regeneration of the spinal cord at the injured cite" and below it.

The scientists conclude the transplantation "could be a good treatment method" for paraplegic patients.

Bioethics specialist Wesley J. Smith, writing in Lifesite.com, expressed enthusiasm about the apparent breakthrough, but also urged caution.

"We have to be cautious," said Smith, a senior fellow at the Seattle-based Discovery Institute and a special consultant to the Center for Bioethics and Culture. "One patient does not a treatment make."

The authors of the study note, writes Smith, that the lamenectomy the patient received might have offered some benefit.

"But still, this is a wonderful story that offers tremendous hope for paralyzed patients," he said.

The fact that the patient has a very old injury, Smith added, makes the results even more dramatic.

Smith said he has known about the study for some time, "but because I didn't want to be guilty of the same hyping that is so often engaged in by some therapeutic cloning proponents, I waited until it was published in a peer reviewed journal."

Like most breakthroughs using adult stem cells, this one has been completely ignored by the U.S. mainstream media, Smith pointed out.

"Can you imagine the headlines if the cells used had been embryonic?" he asked.

WASHINGTON -- In less enlightened times, there was no catastrophe independent of human agency. When the plague or some other natural disaster struck, witches were burned, Jews were massacred and all felt better (except the witches and Jews).

A few centuries later, our progressive thinkers have progressed not an inch. No fall of a sparrow on this planet is not attributed to sin and human perfidy. The three current favorites are: (1) global warming, (2) the war in Iraq and (3) tax cuts. Katrina hits and the unholy trinity is immediately invoked to damn sinner-in-chief George W. Bush.

This kind of stupidity merits no attention whatsoever, but I'll give it a paragraph. There is no relationship between global warming and the frequency and intensity of Atlantic hurricanes. Period. The problem with the evacuation of New Orleans is not that National Guardsmen in Iraq could not get to New Orleans, but that National Guardsmen in Louisiana did not get to New Orleans. As for the Bush tax cuts, administration budget requests for New Orleans flood control during the five Bush years exceed that of the five preceding Clinton years. The notion that the allegedly missing revenues would have been spent wisely by Congress, targeted precisely to the levees of New Orleans, and reconstruction would have been completed in time, is a threefold fallacy. The argument ends when you realize that, as The Washington Post notes, ``the levees that failed were already completed projects."

Let's be clear. The author of this calamity was, first and foremost, Nature (or if you prefer, Nature's God). The suffering was augmented, aided and abetted in descending order of culpability by the following:

1. The mayor of New Orleans. He knows the city. He knows the danger. He knows that during Hurricane Georges in 1998, the use of the Superdome was a disaster and fully two-thirds of the residents never got out of the city. Nothing was done. He declared a mandatory evacuation only 24 hours before Hurricane Katrina hit. He did not even declare a voluntary evacuation until the day before that, at 5 p.m. At that time, he explained that he needed to study his legal authority to call a mandatory evacuation and was hesitating to do so lest the city be sued by hotels and other businesses.

2. The Louisiana governor. It's her job to call up the National Guard and get it to where it has to go. Where the Guard was in the first few days is a mystery. Indeed, she issued an authorization for the National Guard to commandeer school buses to evacuate people on Wednesday afternoon -- more than two days after the hurricane hit and after much of the fleet had already drowned in its parking lots.

3. The head of FEMA. Late, slow and in way over his head. On Thursday he says on national television that he didn't even know there were people in the Convention Center, when anybody watching television could see them there destitute and desperate. Maybe in his vast bureaucracy he can assign three 20-year-olds to watch cable news and give him updates every hour on what in hell is going on.

4. The president. Late, slow and simply out of tune with the urgency and magnitude of the disaster. The second he heard that the levees had been breached in New Orleans, he should have canceled his schedule and addressed the country on national television to mobilize it both emotionally and physically to assist in the disaster. His flyover on the way to Washington was the worst possible symbolism. And his Friday visit was so tone-deaf and politically disastrous that he had to fly back three days later.

5. Congress. Now as always playing holier-than-thou. Perhaps it might ask itself who created the Department of Homeland Security in the first place. The congressional response to all crises is the same -- rearrange the bureaucratic boxes, but be sure to add one extra layer. The last four years of DHS have been spent principally on bureaucratic reorganization (and real estate) instead of, say, a workable plan for as predictable a disaster as a Gulf Coast hurricane.

6. The American people. They have made it impossible for any politician to make any responsible energy policy over the last 30 years -- but that is a column for another day. Now is not the time for constructive suggestions. Now is the time for blame, recriminations and sheer astonishment. Mayor Nagin has announced that, as bodies are still being found and as a public health catastrophe descends upon the city, he is sending 60 percent of his cops on city funds for a little R&R, mostly to Vegas hotels. Asked if it was appropriate to party in these circumstances, he responded: ``New Orleans is a party town. Get over it.''

It's amazing how the people of this country can unite during times of great disaster. Of course 9/11 was a big one and that ended up being ruined by United Way because they 'had enough money donated from the 9/11 telethon' and they decide in their infinite wisdom to give some of that money to 'performing arts'. Anyway...

Now with Hurricane Katrina the $2000 debit cards being handed out by the Red Cross and FEMA are being used at Victoria's Secret and strip bars. How much of a scumbag do you have to be to rip off needy people? And if you are a legitament recipient of one of these cards, what the fuck are you thinking? Do you think you're going to spend it and then hold your hand out for another one? Oh yeah... that's how it will probably work. Some whiny Democrat will start maoning about how Bush is doing such a shitty job... well that's happened already. Anyway my gripe is Liberals like to throw money at a problem hoping it will go away. If it doesn't, raise taxes and throw some more at it.

I learned a very important lesson when I was a young man. My father took me to a Yankee's game and while we were on the outskirts of the ball park among a throng of people, dirty water dog vendors and the usual group of people selling their wares a young latino aproached my father. He was probably about 11 or 12 with these big puppy dog eyes and asked in a pleading voice 'Please sir, I am very hungry and I haven't eaten. May I please have some money for food'. Sometimes as kids you really can't appreciate what adults are about. That day I found out my father was no sucker. He looked at the kid and pointed to the hot dog vendor and said 'Let's go, I'll buy you a hotdog'. The look on this this little shit's face was classic, he looked stupified, stuttered for a second and half mumbled '...uh... no thanks' and walked away. Walked away to some couple who, you guessed, gave him money. Right around the time this kid was mumbling his reply to my father the light bulb went off in my head. This little fucker is full of shit! As I watched him walk away I started to get really pissed off and I wanted to go over there and kick his ass! My father calmed me down and I wondered how anyone can be such a conniving little douche bag (I thought that, I said something a little less vulgar). He just sighed, shrugged his shoulders and said 'There will always be people like him'. My father sensed something fishy and he reacted in the right way. If the kid was really hungry he would have taken the hot dog and I'm sure my father would have given him some cash after. I guess he was a sucker for certain kids, how do you think I ended up getting away with what I did? Rest easy Pops.

What I do to donate is volunteer my time. I'll do phone work or computer work for people for free or whatever else they need help with. Of course I've been burned too many times to give away my stuff or cash. Here's some of my favorites;

One time I was strapped for cash and a friend offered to buy my shotgun off of me for $100. He said it will be there waiting for me when I had the money. Well when I had the money a short time later I found out he sold it to someone else for $200. That pissed me off. Done.

Another time I was doing hours and hours of free computer work for this guys nit picky commie wife. Nothing I did to her computer was ever good enough or some minor little silly detail wasn't just right. He would tell me that I had to come over his house that night and work on his wife's computer until it was right. My response was 'no' and I am never going to work on your computer again'. And I haven't. Done.

Friends of mine went on vacation for two weeks and asked me to house sit for them so they didn't have to pay to put their dog and two cats in a kennel. They lived about 25 miles from where I lived and it added another 50 miles to my daily ride to and from work. I also had to leave work immediately so I could get back and let the poor dog out to go to the bathroom. I did this for two weeks so I brought my Mac, satellite radio and some laundry over. They came home while I was at work (and never called to tell me they were home), and when I got there my stuff was unplugged and in a pile on the dining room table. OK whatever. I wanted to spend some time with his kids but his wife said 'you can't stay'. Basically it was 'we have no more need of you get the fuck out'. Very rarely in my life do I genuinely get mad enough to do another person violence but I had to leave or I would have. Done, pay the money for a fucking kennel.

Another favorite was helping another friend put in a walk way. I spent a week of my vacation time digging, pulling up roots, and lugging bricks and bags of sand and stone around. I've wired his home network for him as well as 'given' him a 5 port switch that he never paid me for. I tried to get him to paint some little metal miniatures for me (and he's really good at it because he does it all the time) and I would buy them from his store. He refused to do it and I heard him saying (to someone else) how I'm lazy because I didn't want to paint them. He recently moved his computer to the other side of the room and it's expected that I rewire it. Sorry, I'm too lazy. Done, no more freebies.

C#/.NET not cross platform? What A Shocker! (That's sarcasm folks)

This is an email that I sent out to a friend of mine who is an A #1 Microsoft Fanboy.

Before we continue I want to explain .NET and C#. C# is the programming language (like Java) created by Microsoft and .NET is the framework (like the Java Runtime Environment) used to run the code. You write something in C# and it should run on any .NET compatible framework. What MS does is use Windows specific code (ex. windows.forms) to write their apps so it's only available to Windows. The Mono project is trying to implement a .NET compatible framework for alternative OS' (Linux, Mac as well as Windows) so that code will work. Without any support from Microsoft to port the framework to other OS' how cross platform can it be? Exactly, they don't want it to be. They want to hide behind the fact that it's a 'standard' and 'everyone' can use it. This is typical MS FUD.

Here's the Email;
Microsoft has absolutely no intention what so ever to make '.NET' a standard. If they did they would allow the Mono Developers into their little conference. I said from the beginning that MS is only creating .NET so they could take out Java, which has a true cross platform framework. Microsoft releases the bare minimum needed to get a standard created and then uses proprietary code for Windows (can you say 'windows.forms'?). I'm sure you won't believe this email or make some excuse for why they did it, but come on for cryin' out loud open your eyes! No more C# for me. Microsoft states on its conference Web site that its 'Birds of a Feather' sessions are proposed and voted on by the community. But the Mono BOF was never listed for voting and therefore received no votes, despite the submission being confirmed, according to De Icaza's blog.

The Mono project develops software that allows .NET client applications to be run on various operating systems including Microsoft, Linux and Mac OS X. As Mono is a competitor to Microsoft's .NET implementation, de Icaza said it may make the software giant "nervous".

A Microsoft spokesperson said on Thursday: "Microsoft received hundreds of requests for Birds of a Feather sessions and unfortunately it was not able to accommodate all requests. Mono is just one example of the level of excitement within the developer community around .NET."

As the Mono team were not able to hold such a session, the developers arranged a meeting at hotel near the PDC conference centre on Tuesday and handed out flyers to conference attendees to inform them about the event.
Although various developers that Builder UK spoke to on Wednesday had heard of Mono, the majority were not interested in having .NET development tools available for alternative platforms, such as Linux.

PDC attendee Mike Roberts said Microsoft's customers are unlikely to switch from Visual Studio to the open source project. "There are two types of businesses — the ones that buy into Microsoft and those that don't. The people who bought into the Microsoft world probably won't switch to Mono. The other people — those using Java or LAMP might do, though," said Roberts.

Why I'm choosing Linux (yes, it's Apple whining)

First I would like to say that I'm a 'Switcher'. I have been using a Mac for the past three years and I haven't looked back. I like the ease of use of the Mac interface yet I still have the ability to mangle the Unix (BSD) underpinnings.

I've owned my second Mac for only a short month or two before Steve Jobs dropped his bombshell at the World Wide Developers Conference announcing Apple's switch (pun) to Pentium processors. Jobs all but admitted that PowerPC processors are better and the main reason they were switching was because of power comsumption (Yeah, right). Meanwhile the Mac Zealots were upset about losing the (better) processors but will buy one because they hate Microsoft, and the Apple Lemmings could care less and as long as it had a chromed Apple logo on the case they are going to buy it anyway. The news obviously came as a surprise to me and the first thing I thought about was 'They better drop the fucking price of their PowerMac's by $1000'. My issue's are more of practicality than any sort of brand loyalty. If a computer company expects me to support them they have to support me too.

Now don't take this as a rip on Apple's OS X. I love OS X and it's the number one reason that I switched with hardware coming in at a distant second. So what's the problem you say? You're still getting the OS so what's the big deal? Again, Price. I don't have that big of a problem buying a $3000 Dual G5 übercomputer, but I do have a huge problem with buying a $3000 Pentium 4 computer of any make. It's just not worth it to me and I bet it's not worth it to a lot of other people too (unless you fall into the latter two categories).

Where do I go from this point? Right now I'm still going to wait and see Apple's pricing scheme. I hope they will drop the prices of their Mac's down to a comparable Dell (or even lower but that's not likely to happen). If not it's time to start looking for a new operating system with hardware that I want (like an Athlon 64 X2).

Windows is the first to come to mind. Do I switch back to Windows? No because I just don't want to. I don't care for it, there's too much spyware, virus', and crap software. I don't have a problem with running it because I know how to take care of my boxes (I have seen morons ruin(!) OS X because they don't have a damn clue as to what they're doing). I also choose not to use Windows because it's over priced, product activation is total BS, and frankly it's a little boring. If Microsoft released Vista for $120 for a full release (meaning upgrade or fresh install) without product activation I would buy it. It still wouldn't be my main OS, but I would still pay for it.

Darwin x86 - Darwin is OS X, or at least the kernel but no beautiful Aqua GUI... Something to play with, but no good hardware support, etc. Honestly, it just doesn't interest me.

FreeBSD - The next on my list was FreeBSD. FreeBSD as well as the Mach Kernel from Next is the base for OS X. Why not go to the next closest free and open operating system? Well FreeBSD is a great OS, solid and dependable but a little out of my learning curve and I'm just plain lazy. PC-BSD which is FreeBSD with a nice installer and the KDE Desktop built on is available for the beginner. It's nice, but the OS X GUI is why I want to stay with Apple to begin with. At this point I can go to any *nix and have the same desktop environment and common apps.

Linux (General) - Ah Linux! Linux has the ear of some big corporations like IBM, Novell, Sun Microsystems and even Microsoft (though not in a good way). With support from big companies and having a large developer community is why I've decided to go with it. Linux is also becoming more main stream, with native apps from Skype, AVG, Adobe, Real, and Macromedia it's not hard to have the bells and whistles of a Windows desktop. 90% of my unix experience comes from using Linux and I'm comfortable with it.

Gentoo Linux (Specifically) - Gentoo is a source based distribution that is structured much like FreeBSD. Gentoo's Portage is very simiiar to FreeBSD ports which allows a user to download software from a repository, compile and install it. Gentoo has no installer (but excellent documentation), and I learned a great deal about how a Linux system works from the initial install and configuration. A minor negative is the time it takes to install a complete desktop worthy system due to the long compile times. It took me a solid two days to get Gnome running (using 'emerge gnome' after first boot on an Athlon XP 1800+ w/768Mb RAM) and over 24 hours of compile time alone getting openoffice.org to run (on a PIII 866MHz w/128Mb RAM). After the wait time from the initial setup it's just like any other distro and having an OS natively compliled is a big boost in speed and stability.

Lastly, if I wasn't going to use a source based distribution I would use Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is a Debian based distro that is user friendly, doesn't load a lot of useless software on a default install and has an uncluttered Gnome desktop. I highly recommend this distro to new users.

'Health Chips' Could Help Patients in US (Big Brother Alert!)

Jul. 31--President Bush's former health secretary Tommy Thompson is putting the final touches to a plan that could result in US citizens having a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip inserted under their skin, The Business has learned.

The RFID capsules would be linked to a computerised database being created by the US Department of Health to store and manage the nation's health records. It could be the precursor to a similar scheme in the UK.

The president's budget for 2006 continues to support the use of health information technology by increasing funding to $125m (70m, E103m) for pilot schemes.

Thompson, now a director of Applied Digital Solutions, the company that makes the chips, intends to publish the proposal in the next 50 days, by which time he plans to have had a VeriChip inserted in his arm. Thompson believes the capsules could help save thousands of lives every year.

VeriChip spokesman John Procter says around 98,000 people die needlessly in the US every year after being given inappropriate treatment because their medical history was not available.

"There is a vast range of people who could benefit from having an RFID chip inserted under their skin as insurance against an accident. People with adverse reactions to certain medicines such as penicillin, people with pacemakers, people with allergies, people with weak hearts, would be made safer by a process that costs around $200 per person. In fact, virtually everyone could benefit from having a chip inserted."

The company intends to lobby the UK health authorities to inject the chips into British patients.

According to Procter, the chips can also be used for financial transactions. In Europe, the Baja Beach Club chain has introduced chipping in the Netherlands and Spain.

The VeriChip is inserted at the club and means club-goers will no longer have to wait in line to pay to get in and will be able to use the chip to pay their bar bill.

Civil liberties groups such as Caspian in the US fear that the need for increased security in the wake of terrorist attacks could act as a catalyst for a more widespread use of VeriChips.

People that know me don't think that I'm some sort of prude (trust me on this) but I find the way that most people think... odd. Here's an example;

I want to bring the girls to see War of the Worlds and I asked someone if it was OK for younger kids. He said 'Oh yeah there's no nudity or anything in it'. I said 'hmm..., I read in an article that there was a scene where there where hundreds of dead bodies blocking up a river'. His response was 'Oh yeah that's there but there's no nudity'. It strikes me as odd that seeing a boobie is worse than seeing a bunch of mangled corpses in a river. I've always thought that if the child was able to handle it than it was OK, if they can't handle it than it wasn't OK. Seems simple to me, than I came across this little gem and everything made sense...

I have the Slashdot RSS feed and I saw an article posted 'How to Become A Real-World Superhero', which links to a Forbes.com article called 'Being Batman'. That was exactly what I was working on for this blog. Ah well, the Forbes article is OK, a little too short in info but check it out anyway...

The one think you should definately see is Batman Begins! This movie totally rocked in ways that I never expected (ex.: They actually make the Scarecrow cool). Spend your nine bucks to see it, it's worth it.

These pictures were taken from an AC130 Specter gunship two and a half miles away. The guys in the picture are setting up a roadside bomb and an ambush for an American convoy that followed a short while after the pictures were taken.

They were setting up for the ambush and were pacing off the distance from the bomb to where the convoy was to pass

The founder and chief architect of the popular Linux distribution Gentoo Daniel Robbins, has taken up a job at Microsoft. He describes his new job as "helping Microsoft to understand Open Source and community-based projects". While in the midst of hastily packing to move to Redmond, Robbins nonetheless managed to find the time to finalize the transfer of Gentoo's intellectual property (essentially copyrights on ebuilds and other software as well as soon-to-be trademarked Gentoo logos) to the not-for-profit Gentoo Foundation, Inc. - I'm not surprised! Are you surprised?

Nine months after the Clinton-era "assault weapons ban" expired, the FBI has released crime statistics showing a drop in homicides in 2004 -- the first such drop since 1999. The FBI report said all types of violent crime declined last year, and cities with more than a million people showed the largest drops in violent crime.
- Maybe it's because the citizens are a little better armed :)

When the Clinton ban on certain semiautomatic weapons expired last September, gun control groups warned that violent crime would escalate, including violence against children.
- YES! They invoked the Liberal Battlecry™; 'Let's do it for the children!' The only 'control' these people want is to NOT let you own any firearms. That is their goal plain and simple (just ask Cruz's wife).

But those "doom and gloom" forecasts have been exposed as "pure clap-trap," said Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) President Joe Tartaro.

"Where is the news media on this?" Tartaro wondered. He said if the number of homicides had gone up, reporters would be writing front-page stories linking the rise to the end of the semi-auto ban.

"But that's not the case, and the mainstream press, with the exception of an April 28 New York Times article, has been pretty quiet about it," Tartaro said.

The next one was because I brought a gun magazine over someone's house (the type you read, not load a semiauto with). Another person was also visiting the same residence and turned evil on me as soon as she saw what it was. Of course little comments were said and when I mentioned a few facts (kinda like this article) it went downhill 'You just have gun's to make up for a small penis!' Anti-Gunners are crazy... and I don't have a small penis... really.

Here's another copy/paste from another email I sent whining about the 'MacTel' decision.

I watched the keynote and I admit it was very good (watch it here). My problem with them moving to Intel is cost. Intel based PC's are dirt cheap, and Mac's aren't. I've been hearing around that Apple will NOT allow OS X to run on anything other than a Mac. That's all good and fine, and Apple makes a gorgeous computer but the prices HAVE to be close to what Dell sell's the same PC for. With the Power PC processors (which still are superior to the x86), Mac OS X and the hardware design I feel you are getting a good package deal. Change out the Power PC's to Intel Pentium's and you're getting a FreeBSD based operating system on a Pentium box with a pretty case. It's just not that special to me anymore. Give me OS X, I'll build my own PC (which I've been doing forever) and I'll be satisfied. We'll have to wait until the end of 2006 to see if I'm willing to buy one...

Why Would Anyone Buy One Now? (Or Apple Offended Me)

This is a copy/paste from an email I sent out rambling on about why on God's green earth would Apple switch (bad pun) to Intel processors.

I guess if I had $3000 to throw away I would buy the PowerMac that I've been pretending to save up for (it'll be a collector's item). Because Apple has announced the transition to Intel do you think anyone would want to buy a current Mac? Do you realize in 2 years our Macs will be outdated? Did you know my ear is still fucking killing me?

This decision by Apple really and truly is bothering me... Apple had something special and all because the Intel chips run cooler... that's flawed logic... Apple uses the SAME processors in their desktops and Laptops. Intel has specific processors for Laptop's, The Pentium M, who's top speed is currently at 2.1Ghz. They're great processors but Power PC processors are still faster and Job's all but admitted that during his keynote address. It's all because they run cooler. They better 'white box' OS X 10.5 Leopard or SERIOUSLY drop the prices of their hardware into the realm of what Dell is charging. To me this is almost unforgivable... I'm sure the die hard Mac users won't have a problem because they're either too brainwashed or stupid to care...

    Ahh... More Mac back ups to share with my Faithful Reader(s)! This one dates back to November 26, 2003 and comes from my buddy at The Ideasmithy. I can't express how much I wholeheartedly agree with it.

Are you a survivor.........

    According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's probably shouldn't have survived. Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.)

    As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors! We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.

    We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. No cell phones. Unthinkable. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

    We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or Internet chat rooms. We had friends! We went outside and found them. We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms, and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever.

    We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them. Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. Imagine that! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

    We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them! Congratulations. Please pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors?

Doctors' kitchen knives ban call

Doctors say knives are too pointed
- Isn't that the point (pun intended)?

A&E doctors are calling for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives to reduce deaths from stabbing.
A team from West Middlesex University Hospital said violent crime is on the increase - and kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings.

They argued many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon.
- So instead of trying to fix the alcohal and drug problem they want to (yet again) screw over the law abiding people.

The research is published in the British Medical Journal.

The researchers said there was no reason for long pointed knives to be publicly available at all.

They consulted 10 top chefs from around the UK, and found such knives have little practical value in the kitchen.
- But I'm sure those chefs still have the 'offensive' knives too (until their houses are raided and they are thrown in jail for owning them).

None of the chefs felt such knives were essential, since the point of a short blade was just as useful when a sharp end was needed.

The researchers said a short pointed knife may cause a substantial superficial wound if used in an assault - but is unlikely to penetrate to inner organs.
- My understanding was kitchen knives where a tool used for cooking. Now they're classified as weapons?

In contrast, a pointed long blade pierces the body like "cutting into a ripe melon".

The use of knives is particularly worrying amongst adolescents, say the researchers, reporting that 24% of 16-year-olds have been shown to carry weapons, primarily knives.

The study found links between easy access to domestic knives and violent assault are long established.
- Hey instead of banning them, you could force citizens into a 'Kitchen Club' where they would keep their registered long bladed kitchen knives locked up. They would prepare the food there (under guard of course) and then take the freshly prepared meat/chicken/veggies home to cook.

French laws in the 17th century decreed that the tips of table and street knives be ground smooth.
- Pfft! The French have ALWAYS been pussies.

A century later, forks and blunt-ended table knives were introduced in the UK in an effort to reduce injuries during arguments in public eating houses.

The researchers say legislation to ban the sale of long pointed knives would be a key step in the fight against violent crime.

"The Home Office is looking for ways to reduce knife crime.

"We suggest that banning the sale of long pointed knives is a sensible and practical measure that would have this effect."

Home Office spokesperson said there were already extensive restrictions in place to control the sale and possession of knives.

"The law already prohibits the possession of offensive weapons in a public place, and the possession of knives in public without good reason or lawful authority, with the exception of a folding pocket knife with a blade not exceeding three inches.

"Offensive weapons are defined as any weapon designed or adapted to cause injury, or intended by the person possessing them to do so.
- Ah... intent! My mechanical pencil can take someone's eye out. So all's someone has to do is try and use it in an offensive manner and it gets banned?

"An individual has to demonstrate that he had good reason to possess a knife, for example for fishing, other sporting purposes or as part of his profession (e.g. a chef) in a public place.
- How about 'I have a knife because I may have the need to cut something'? Not good enough? How about 'You pussies banned all firearms and I'm forced to use a stone age tool to defend myself and my family from the rash of home invasions going on'? What? That'll land me in jail?!? Socialism/Liberalism at it's finest.

"The manufacture, sale and importation of 17 bladed, pointed and other offensive weapons have been banned, in addition to flick knives and gravity knives."

A spokesperson for the Association of Chief Police Officers said: "ACPO supports any move to reduce the number of knife related incidents, however, it is important to consider the practicalities of enforcing such changes."
- Well hell, just do an unannounced spot visit to make sure that mommy is not using a knife that is too big to prepare Daddy and Juniors dinner with! And if she is, arrest her and throw her in jail for a month! That'll show that no good criminal mommy to not mess with a government that is far over extending it's authority.

I saw Revenge of The Sith on opening day and I really enjoyed it. It was far, far better than the Eps I&II and (to me), the CGI was better and not as in your face as the first two (but there was still a lot of it). I came across this fan manipulated picture off of The Caped Wonder web site. Starting from the top, Superman now has a haircut, a little darker blue and a little lighter red in the costume, the same style 'S' only bigger, no 'S' symbol on the belt buckle, NO HOT PANTS and taller boots. This is what he should look like, it keeps the new updates but blends it in with the old very well. Click on the picture below for the full sized version.

Despite dire predictions that America's streets would be awash in military-style guns, the expiration of the decade-long assault weapons ban in September has not set off a sustained surge in the weapons' sales, gun makers and sellers say. It also has not caused any noticeable increase in gun crime in the past seven months, according to several city police departments.

The uneventful expiration of the assault weapons ban did not surprise gun owners, nor did it surprise some advocates of gun control. It underscored what many of them had said all along: The ban was porous - so porous that assault weapons remained widely available throughout their prohibition.

"The whole time that the American public thought there was an assault weapons ban, there never really was one," said Kristen Rand, legislative director of the Violence Policy Center, a gun- control group. What's more, law-enforcement officials say that military-style weapons, which were never used in many gun crimes but did enjoy some vogue in the years before the ban took effect, seem to have gone out of style in criminal circles.

"Back in the early '90s, criminals wanted those Rambo-type weapons they could brandish," said Jim Pasco, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police. "Today they are much happier with a 9-millimeter handgun they can stick in their belt."

When the ban took effect in 1994, it exempted more than 1.5 million assault weapons in private hands. Over the next 10 years, at least 1.17 million more assault weapons were prod- uced - legitimately - by manufacturers that availed themselves of loopholes in the law, according to an analysis of firearms production data by the Violence Policy Center.

Throughout the decade-long ban, for instance, the gun manu- facturer DPMS/Panther Arms of Minnesota continued selling assault rifles to civilians by the tens of thousands. In compliance with the ban, the firearms manufacturer "sporterized" the military- style weapons, sawing off bayonet lugs, securing stocks so they were not collapsible and adding muzzle brakes. But the changes did not alter the guns' essence; they were still semiautomatic rifles with pistol grips.

After the ban expired in September, DPMS reintroduced its full- featured weapons to the civilian market and enjoyed a slight spike in sales. But that increase was short-lived, and predictably so, said Randy Luth, the company's owner. "I never thought the sunset of the ban would be that big a deal," he said.

No gun production data are available for the seven months since the ban expired. And some gun-control advocates say they do not trust the self-reporting of gun industry representatives, who may want to play down the volume of their sales to ward off a revival of the ban.

A replica of the ban is again before the Senate. "In my view, the assault weapons legislation was working," said Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, a chief sponsor of the new bill. "It was drying up supply and driving up prices. The number of those guns used in crimes dropped because they were less available."

Assault weapons account for a small fraction of gun crimes: about 2 percent, according to most studies, and no more than 8 percent. But they have been used in many high-profile shooting sprees.

OK, let's look at these last two paragraphs; Diane 'If I had my way, Mr and Mrs America turn them all in' Feinstein the woman who wants to repeal the 2nd amendment, says it's 'working' when the next paragraph it states only 2% (actually less according to the FBI) of all gun related crimes use them. The tactic is to start on the scary looking stuff to fool the ignorant and then go after everything else. -B

Gun crime in the United States has plummeted since the early 1990s. But a study for the National Institute of Justice said that it could not "clearly credit the ban with any of the nation's recent drop in gun violence."

I received an email from my buddy over at the Ideasmithy titled 'Guns'. It went like this; 'This can't be good for fans of firearms. The Libs are going to take this and run with it.' With a link to the following Washington Times article.

The basics of the article (for those who won't read it) is about some Fucked Up Little Bastard with a Hitler fetish, shoots his Grandfather (a tribal police officer), steals two of his guns, and kills 8 students and 1 teacher at his high school. Then, reminiscent of the two other Fucked Up Little Bastards at Columbine, he kills himself as soon as the police show up. Coward.

That's not the shocking part about it. This LA Times article that I found is what's shocking, it's titled 'Gun Violence Renews Legislative Debate'. Before I read this article I expect a typical LA Times Left Wing Nut Job Editorial about the evils of firearm ownership yadda yadda yadda. Well good reader(s) this one is about some pissed off people who WANT to be able to own and carry concealed guns. Of course it does delve into the anti-gun 'retarts' side of it also... All in all a very good read.

'Poster Mom' for Gun Control Arrested on Gun Charges

(CNSNews.com) - The president of the Springfield, Ill., chapter of the Million Mom March faces charges of having drugs and an illegal handgun in her home. Press reports said the gun's serial number had been scratched off.

Annette Stevens became a gun control activist after her son was shot to death several years ago. She told a newspaper the gun belonged to her late son, and when she found it, she didn't know what to do with it, so she put it in a drawer.

[ORION: Belonged to her son and had the serial number scratched off?!? Her son was one of the bad guys! I'm glad the fuck is dead.]

Police reportedly found the gun and illegal drugs while executing a search warrant at Stevens' home in connection with a spate of drive-by shootings in the area. Stevens insists the search was illegal.

[ORION: Drugs too! Sweet! I hope they fry her ass.]

Second Amendment groups were quick to note the irony of a gun control activist being arrested on gun charges.

The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) called it a classic case of "liberal elitists" who "cannot walk their own talk."

"I find it incredible that someone representing an organization that pushes legislation that only punishes law-abiding gun owners would possess such an illegal weapon," said Richard Pearson, ISRA's executive director.

"Surely she must be familiar with US gun laws and those in Illinois, considering the position she holds. Does she think the law does not apply to her due to anti-gun affiliation? It's the height of hypocrisy!"

Press reports said Stevens did not have the ID card required of Illinois firearms owners.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms called it ironic that "this poster mom for gun control" has admitted keeping an illegally altered handgun in her home while she's campaigned to deprive other citizens of their firearms.

"If Stevens is so convinced guns don't belong in society, then why didn't she immediately turn that gun over to the police when she found it more than two years ago?" asked CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

"Why did she keep it? What's wrong with this picture? Ms. Stevens is about to learn that supporting gun control is like keeping a vicious dog. They sometimes bite the hands that feed them."

"In the kind of Draconian anti-gun society Stevens and her cohorts are trying to create," Gottlieb continued, "it wouldn't matter if she were innocent as she claims. Under the laws her group supports, gun owners are essentially considered guilty until they prove themselves otherwise."

CCRKBA said gun laws supported by activists such as Stevens do nothing to prevent crime - but go a long way in eroding the rights of law-abiding citizens.
