These pictures were taken from an AC130 Specter gunship two and a half miles away. The guys in the picture are setting up a roadside bomb and an ambush for an American convoy that followed a short while after the pictures were taken.
They were setting up for the ambush and were pacing off the distance from the bomb to where the convoy was to pass
40 mm cannon on the gunship. Awesome technology now a days.

ReplyDeleteIf this WERE taken from an AC 130 Spectre gunship -
The AC 130 has max speed of 380 mph - so probably minimum airspeed while circling - say, what, 250(?) mph.
The video clip takes 3:33 (3 min:33 sec)
At that speed, it would have to be circling the target. At 2 i/2 mi from target, that makes for a circle of roughly (pi x D) 5 x 3.14 , or 15.7 miles
At 250 mph, it would travel 14.6 mi, which is almost the whole circumference of the circle. Meaninng the view from the aircraft would shift almost 360 degrees round during the time of the engagement.
Even at 160 mph (prettyslow for such a large heavy aircraft) - it would travel about 8 miles, still a viewpoint rotation about half way round during the time of the engagement,
(If the aircraft were travelling in a straight line, there would still be a major shift in target view from the aspect of the aircraft)
THERE IS NO SHIFT IN VIEW FOR THE DURATION OF THIS CLIP !
WHATEVER THIS CLIP SHOWS, IT IS NOT FROM A MOVING AIRCRAFT.
It is either from a stationary position, or possibly a heliocopter (Wouldn't they hear the engines??).
This clip, as preported and presented, is impossible !
